Sol-gel based hybrid optical materials

In 2005 started the development of sol-gel technology in the in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solids headed by Assoc. Prof. S. Gutzov (Department of Physical Chemistry). Functional materials based on Sm(III)-coumarin complexes introduced in silica matrices are under development.

The research activities of the Laboraory are related to the preparation and characterization of oxide sol-gel materials, doped with organic chromophores and lanthanide (Eu(III), Tb(III), Ho(III) and Sm(III) complexes of organic chromophores. The electrical properties on these new materials are studied. Doped zirconia and silica ceramic materials and powder coatings – temperature dependent optical materials are also part of the Laboratory research.
