Dr. Konstantina Harraß, Institut für Werkstoffkunde und Angewandte Mathematik, FH Köln, Germany is visiting researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia. Dr. Harraß will be in the Faculty from 16.02.2014 to 07.03.2014. Dr. Harraß research interests are related to the development of mechanically strong polymeric hydrogels, polymer synthesis and characterization as well as in testing the polymeric materials failure.

Prof. Dr. Spas Kolev, Melbourne, Australia visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the project “BeyondEverest” from 16.12.2013 to 17.01.2014. Prof. Kolev is an expert in the field of analytical chemistry.

Dr. Hristo Varbanov, Institut für Anorganische Chemie, Universität Wien, Wien, Austria visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the project “BeyondEverest” from 04.12.2013  to 11.01.2014. Prof. Varbanov is an expert in the field of platinum complexes and their utilization for tumor therapy.

Prof. Dr. Simeon Stoyanov, Unilever, Vlaardingen, Holland was visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia from 18.02.2013 to 22.02.2013 within the project “BeyondEverest”. Prof. Stoyanov shared his expertise in the field of plant pollens as micro-reactors for in-situ preparation, encapsulation and targeted delivery of live actives with the scientists from thе Faculty.

Prof. Dr. Dimitar Panayotov, Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg, USA visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the project “BeyondEverest” from 04.02.2013 to 29.03.2013. Prof. Panayotov is expert in solid state chemistry, electrochemistry, IR spectroscopy, catalysis and reaction kinetics.

Dr. Nikoleta Simeonova, LifeTEC Network, LESA Project, Maastricht, Netherlands visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia from 07.01.2013 to 01.02.2013 within the project “BeyondEverest”. Dr. Simeonova is expert in bridging and clustering science with industry and in nanotechnology of colors.

Prof. Dr. Zlatan Denchev, Department of Polymer Engineering, University of Minho, Portugal was visiting researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia from 03.01.2013 to 04.02.2013. Dr. Denchev expertise is in the field of polymer chemistry and physics, polymer materials, nanostructured polymer composites, medical adhesive systems based on α-2cyanoacrylates.

Dr. Dimitar Prodanov, Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC), Leuven, Belgium visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the project “BeyondEverest” from 20.12.2012 to 18.01.2013. Dr. Prodanov shared his experience in nano-biotechnologies, medical applications of microchips for recording and stimulation of signals in the brain with scientists from the Faculty.

Dr. Tsvetelina Lazarova, MedChem Partners, Medford, MA, USA visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the Project “BeyondEverest” from 16.11.2012 to 24.11.2012. Dr. Lazarova has broad expertise in organic chemistry. She is Co-Founder of MedChem Partners – medicinal chemistry service provider, offering comprehensive medicinal chemistry support to biotech, pharmaceutical companies and universities engaged in drug discovery and research.

Dr. Veselin Petrov, New University of Lisbon, Faculty of Science and Technology, Lisbon, Portugal was a visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the Project “BeyondEverest” from 05.11.2012 to 09.01.2013. Dr. Petrov has expertise in the fields of chemometrics, UV-VIS spectroscopy, derivative spectroscopy, photochemistry and quantum chemistry, synthetic and natural flavylium compounds

PD Dr. Albena Lederer, Institute of Polymer Research, Analysis Department, Dresden, Germany was a visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy,University ofSofia within the Project “BeyondEverest” from 20.10. to 03.11.2012. Dr. Lederer is working in the fields of separation and scattering techniques for polymer characterization, dendritic polymers, quantification of polymer host-guest complexes, etc.

Prof. Gregory Cook, North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota, USA visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the Project “BeyondEverest” from 15.10.2012 to 23.10.2012. Prof. Cook is an expert in the field of sustainable organic synthesis.

Prof. Alexey Pomerantsev, Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics, Moscow, Russia visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the Project “BeyondEverest” from 14.10.2012 to 19.10.2012. Prof. Pomerantsev is an expert in the field of chemometrics and analytical technology solutions for the pharmaceutical industry.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Borislav Ivanov, Department of Physics, VanderbiltUniversity, Nashville, TN, USA, visited the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy,University ofSofia within the Project “BeyondEverest” from 01.10. to 24.10.2012. Dr. Ivanov is an expert in laser-induced materials chemistry, laser-tissue interaction and laser surgery, application and development of new high power mid-IR laser sources.

 

Dr. Angel Ugrinov, North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota, USA was a visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia within the Project “BeyondEverest” from 01.10.2012 to 29.10.2012. Dr. Ugrinov works in the areas of Zintl ions, Ge deltahedral clusters, As and As-Te clusters, aromaticity of non-organic compounds, imprinting molecular chirality in light induced transformations and stereocontrol in solutions, growing of single crystals. He is expert in the equipment and software application for single crystal XRD analysis.

Prof. Valentin Valtchev, Laboratoire Catalyse & Spectrochimie ENSICAEN, Université de Caen – CNRS, France was a visiting scientist within the project “BeyondEverest”  from 03.09.2012 to 30.09.2012 in the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia. Prof. Valtchev’s expertise is in the areas of synthesis of crystalline microporous materials and zeolite nanocrystrals,  preparation of ceramic membranes, heterogeneous catalysis and molecule separation.

Within the project “BeyondEverest” Dr. Ranko Bontchev, Cabot Corporation, Albuquerque, New Mexico was a visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia from 03.09.2012 to 03.10.2012. Dr. Bonchev works in the field of synthesis and study of complex crystalline, amorphous, nano-sized and composite inorganic materials and their applications in catalysis, energy storage, water purification and desalination, photoluminescence and radionuclide’s containment.

Dr. Simeon Stoyanov, Unilever Research&Development Vlaardingen, Vlaardingen, Netherlands was visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia  within the project “BeyondEverest” from 16.07.2012 to 16.08.2012. Dr. Stoyanov research interests are in the fields of foods microstructure, foams, self-assembly, separation, light weighted materials,  (nano) fiber production, encapsulation, mesoscale modelling, etc.

Assoc. Prof. Cyril Popov, Institute of Nanostructure Technologies and Analytics, University of Kassel, Germany was visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia  within the project “BeyondEverest” from 16.07.2012 to 10.08.2012.  The main areas of expertise of Assoc. Prof. Popov are diamond thin films, thin films technology, surface modifications and thin films characterization.

Dr. Pavlina Choleva, Fachhochschule Vorarlberg, University of Applied Sciences, Austria was a visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia, within the project “BeyondEverest” from 10.07.2012 to 10.08.2012. The main research interests of Dr. Choleva are in the field  of crystallography, electroplating in the microtechnology, thermal oxidation processes in the technology of semiconductors, pattern transfer by wet and dry etching processes in the micro- and nano-technology.

Dr. Izabela Naydenova, Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland  is a visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia, within the project “BeyondEverest”. Dr. Naydenova will be in the Faculty from 17.06.2012 to 17.07.2012. Dr. Naydenova’s area of expertise are holography/holographic recording materials, photopolymers, photosensitive nanocomposite materials, holographic environmental sensors, design and fabrication of diffractive optical elements by digital printing and traceable holographic identifiers for pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Todor Dudev, Senior Research Associate  at Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan is currently visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia, within the project “BeyondEverest”. Dr. Dudev will be in the Faculty from 04.06.2012 to 04.08.2012. The main research areas of Dr. Dudev include  computational chemistry/biochemistry/biophysics, metals in biology and medicine, molecular modeling, coordination chemistry, chemoinformatics.

Dr. N. Tsarevsky from the Department of Chemistry, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX, USA was visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia, within the project “BeyondEverest”. Dr. Tsarevsky was at the Faculty from 24.05.2012 to 13.06.2012.

Dr. Svetlana Mintova, Laboratoire Catalyse et Spectrochimie, CNRS-ENSICAEN, Université de Caen, France was visiting researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Sofia, within the project “BeyondEverest”. Dr. Mintova was at the Faculty from 21.05.2012 to 21.06.2012.

Dr. Vladimir Gelev was a visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy from 07.05.2012 to 06.06.2012 within the project “BeyondEverest”. Dr. Gelev is Instructor at Harvard Medical School. He received his PhD in Bio-Organic Chemistry in 2001 from the University of Texas at Austin. His main research interest is in NMR-based drug discovery, including new methods for control of the magnetic properties of proteins via selective labeling, and the step-wise construction of ligands from smaller molecular fragments.

Dr. Tzonka MIneva,  Institute Gerhardt (UMR5253, CNRS – Ecole de Chimie de Montpellier) was visiting scientist at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy  for 1 month  within the project “BeyondEverest”  - from 01.04.2012 to 30.04.2012. Her research is oriented towards computer modeling of the interactions taking place at the organic-inorganic interphase in hybrid nanomaterials.

Dr. Hristo Iglev  was recruited within the project “BeyondEverest” for 1 month – from 14.03.2012 to 14.04.2012. Dr. Hristo Iglev is Assistant Professor (Privatdozent) at the department for laser and x-ray physics at Physik-Department E11, Technische Universität München. The main area of his scientific interest is femtosecond spectroscopy on molecular systems, and in particular, photo-induced electron transfer, dyes, hydrogen bonds, solvation, and phase transitions

Dr. D. Panayotov was recruited within the project “BeyondEverest” for 4 months – from 15.02.2012 to 15.06.2012. Prof. Panayotov is experienced into experimental IR spectroscopy of surfaces, electron transfer at thermal and photo initiation as well of nano sized systems, as well as in mass-spectrometry.

 

Announcement of short-term recruitments within the Project “BeyondEverest”

Recently, the Faculty of Chemistry, Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski“ started a FP7 funded Project “BeyondEverest” aiming at increasing the scientific excellence of the Faculty in the field of the Advanced Functional Materials. We have the pleasure to invite you to take part in this project by visiting our Faculty for 1 to 2 months in the next 3 years. These visits aim to initiate and realize joint scientific collaboration in an area of mutual interest with colleagues form our Faculty. The travel and daily allowances (120euro per day) will be covered by the project.
